The Process:
This work has evolved from a long held desire to work directly with the surface of media. I've always wanted to explore other creative disciplines that work directly onto the surface material: whether canvas, wood or clay. The physicality of the creative gesture holds a different kind of intimacy with making the work. Carving into a wood surface, rolling ink onto the matrix and hand rubbing these prints is very exciting and profoundly satisfying.
The Subject:
The images show the moments of realization of a traumatic event. Such events forever change a person's experience and perceptions about himself and life in general. Nothing will ever be the same after the event: a loss of innocence due to violence transference from war, abuse or some other trauma comes a revelation of one's evolving identity.

"Trauma Revelation Series, 2015", Accordion Book, silk screen and fabric, Edition #2/12, 6" x 5" x 1", 2015
The work on this page shows the evolution of my work from the subject of my documentary film. The scroll series above and the book series function as two and three dimensional work.
Gently walking past the installation of the "Scroll Series - Revelations, 2014" causes movement of the paper bringing motion to an otherwise static installation. That movement informs the viewers' experience of the trauma shown that is echoed in the vulnerability of the medium. In book form, the same images are realized as a kind of temporary sculpture. The accordion book allows for portability of the work and a more personal interaction with the images.
